Job Description

Role: Web Developer and Designer

Reporting to: Design Implementation Department Manager

Location: Stevenage

We are looking for an additional member to join our Design Implementation Department. 

This department is responsible for designing and building websites within the Vibe bespoke Page Builder platform, where HTML, CSS, and JavaScript skills are used to deliver efficient, functional, and visually appealing websites, whilst aligning with client expectations and adhering to industry best practices. The team engage in effective communication with clients throughout the design and build process, providing comprehensive support to ensure the successful launch and operation of their website. In addition, the team are responsible for discussing new features, requests, and modifications to all Vibe clients, either through direct channels or via Vibe’s in-house support ticket system.

Our Design Implementation Department ensure client satisfaction by consistently delivering high quality and innovative solutions, as well as improving coding practices and website-building techniques.

Key accountabilities and responsibilities 

• Develop and maintain high-quality websites using HTML, CSS, JavaScript/jQuery.
• Designing and building websites with a focus on UI/UX, making sure they are responsive and accessible on all devices.
• Conceptualising and wireframing website designs to effectively communicate ideas and gather feedback.
• Delivering new and innovative designs for clients, while engaging with clients throughout the design process and providing comprehensive support to ensure the successful launch and operation of their website.
• Communicating project progress, issues, and risks to stakeholders in a timely and transparent manner and negotiating and managing expectations as needed.
• Comprehensive website build testing, as part of the project’s UAT process.
• Providing support for existing clients via Vibe’s Support System.
• Scheduling client meetings to discuss site builds and resolve any issues or concerns.
• Effectively coordinating time across multiple projects.
• Utilising JavaScript to enhance website elements with innovative techniques.
• Implementing comprehensive optimisation techniques to maximize website performance and efficiency. Developing responsive designs for optimal viewing experiences across various devices and platforms, ensuring cross-browser compatibility.

Other responsibilities

• Provide accurate estimations and ensure precise quoting for potential work.
• Staying up to date with advances in development technologies and techniques and identifying opportunities to incorporate them into the team's work.
• Maintaining up-to-date knowledge on emerging design trends, tools, and technologies to incorporate into projects.
• Demonstrating proficiency in design tools like Adobe Creative Suite (Photoshop, Illustrator, XD). Proficiency with front-end technologies including HTML, CSS, and JavaScript for effective collaboration.
• Solid understanding of design principles, typography, colour theory, and layout techniques.
• Engaging in collaborative teamwork to generate innovative ideas that enhance design and implementation processes both internally and externally.
• Strong problem-solving skills and adapting the designs to address project requirements and constraints.
• Provide UI/UX and design expertise across the business when required.
• Producing marketing assets specifically tailored for the Vibe website or other channels.

Education, experience and skills

• Bachelor's degree in web design, graphic design, or a related field.
• A-Levels/ BTEC – Design subjects preferred.
• Knowledge of travel related UI.
• Knowledge of travel booking processes.
• Excellent understanding of current web design principles, HTML and CSS.
• Up-to-date knowledge of SEO and best practices for web optimisation.
• Experience with JavaScript and jQuery.
• Experience of using visual design programmes such as Photoshop, Illustrator and Adobe XD.
• Ability to engage and interact with stakeholders to resolve issues.
• Ability to break-down and explain complicated IT to non-technical stakeholders.
• Excellent communication and time management skills.
