Role: PHP Developer

Reporting to: Chief Technical Officer

Location: Stevenage

We are looking for a PHP Developer to join our team.

 

Responsibilities and duties

  • Develop and maintain cutting edge web-based PHP applications, writing clean, fast PHP to a high standard, in a timely and scalable way.
  • Involvement in the entire web application development life cycle from concept to delivery and post launch support, interface with internal teams to gather requirements and develop software solutions.
  • User authentication and authorization between multiple systems, servers, and environments.
  • Integration of multiple data sources and databases into one system/Experience creating and integrating third party XML/JSON/SOAP/data services and APIs.
  • Refactor, optimize and improve the existing codebase for maintenance and scale.
  • Use test driven development and acceptance tests to ensure feature quality.
  • Coordinate with co-developers, project managers and other members of staff.

 

Skills required

  • Strong ability to develop in PHP using procedural and object oriented programming.
  • Proficient in HTML5, CSS, JavaScript, JQuery. Understanding of responsive web design.
  • Ability to produce AJAX functionality within web pages.
  • Excellent relational database skills with MariaDB/MySQL.
  • Experience of key-value or NOSQL datastores such as Cassandra/Memcached/Redis.
  • Familiarity with limitations of PHP as a platform and its workarounds.
  • Use of code revision systems such as SVN.
  • Follow industry best practices, including secure coding standards.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Motivated and energetic attitude, proud and passionate about writing code.
  • Keep abreast of new trends and best practices in web development.
  • Experience in common third-party APIs (Google, Facebook, etc).
  • Experience with Search Engine Optimization (SEO).
  • Basic linux and server management experience preferable.
